Grey seal

Whilst on holiday in Brixham we went down to a small local cove to have a bbq. Whilst there we got an unexpected visit from a pair of inquisitive grey seals.

Low and fast!

It took me quite a few attempts and i do have photos where the swallow is closer but i like this one the most as it is looking straight down the camera. When on the study tour in Scotland we were watching dolphins in the distance when this little guy kept coming very close whilst feeding on the insects just above the surface of the water, because he (or she) kept using the same flight path i was able to get my eye it and get a rough idea of where to manually focus.

Herring Gull (at eye level)

Another one of my photographs from my trip down to Brighton to see the starling mumuration. I spent about half an hour trying to time my shot with a passing gull as they flew along the pier, it was a little difficult due to the sun being in the direction i was trying to take the photograph, but it the end i was happy with the result.

Wild Bird Wednesday - Stormy seagulls

I took the opportunity last week to go out and see the story seas on the south coast of england. Apparently the worst storm in 20 years. It was certainly the biggest and roughest sea i had ever seen (being 20 years of age that made sense 0_0). There were pieces of star fish, sea weed and shark eggs on paths that were usually a large distance from the tide mark.
However after doging a few waves, and a few failed attempts at large wave photographs i noticed large groups of seagulls were still on the stormy waters. They were sticking together and jumping over the breaking waves, but riding the waves that were not breaking yet. It was fascinating to watch. I assume they were in large groups so that there was less chance of them missing an oncoming dangerous wave. These are the best of my shots of that behavior.
